Human Age

The new reality of optimising human potential will be the single most important determinant of future business success and growth.

The new reality of optimising human potential will be the single most important determinant of future business success and growth.

The inescapable pressure to do more with less since the recession has awakened employers to the true power of human potential: with the right people in the right place at the right time, organisations can achieve more than they imagined.

The focus on reducing costs has forced organisations to look at their workforce in new ways – inspiring creativity and innovation like never before – opening employers’ eyes to the very real power of their talent. Companies that understand how to channel and unleash human passion and potential, and individuals who can truly engage with it to participate in the Human Age, will be those that get ahead.

Employers now urgently need to adjust their mindset to ensure that they have the right work models and people practices in place to attract, retain and unleash the potential of the right people to succeed in the Human Age.

Talent Shortage

ManpowerGroup surveyed nearly 40,000 employers in 41 countries and territories in 2012 to gauge the impact of talent shortages on the global labor market. The seventh annual survey also explored what impact talent challenges are having on their organizations and what they are doing to mitigate the situation.
According to ManpowerGroup seventh annual Talent Shortage Survey, 37% of employers in Poland are experiencing difficulty filling mission-critical positions within their organizations. Globally, one in three employers struggle to fill key vacancies.

ManpowerGroup’s Fresh Perspectives Paper, “Break the Crisis and Complacency Cycle: Get Ahead of the Global Talent Shortage”, warns that employers’ acceptance of their inability to source the skilled talent they need to grow their businesses is a position that threatens to derail business plans for years to come. The paper makes a number of recommendations for how companies can break out of the complacency that has set in around talent shortages, and plan and execute workforce strategies for future hiring that will allow them to overcome the talent shortage crisis and lead their organization to success.

A successful workforce strategy will identify and solve current talent acquisition challenges, anticipate future challenges and put in place solutions to address them effectively. Human resource leaders should consider employing various solutions – including hiring workers who are a Teachable Fit, utilizing strategic migration, employing flexible workers, engaging in hyperspecialization, recruiting within untapped pools of talent like women and youth and expanding tapped talent markets – to find the best workers.
